Donate Your Time at Dallas Food Banks
For a way to give back to the community, consider donating your time at these Dallas area food banks. You'll enjoy helping others and may even learn a new skill or two.
The food banks near our apartments in Downtown Dallas include:
Desoto Food Pantry
The Desoto Food Pantry serves 400 food-insecure families every month. It also relies on donations from residents and community organizations to meet the need. The team is passionate about helping others and donates countless hours. In fact, volunteers are currently wanted on Mondays and Thursdays to help unload the trucks.
Cedar Hill Shares
Cedar Hill Shares started from humble beginnings inside a church. The team of seven dedicated volunteers operated the pantry on Saturdays. Today, the food bank calls its own building home. It works to alleviate hunger, and the volunteers serve the Cedar Hill community with understanding and compassion. The volunteers also fill a variety of roles, from stocking to distribution. For another way to give back, shop from AmazonSmile. After making Cedar Hill Shares your charity of choice, Amazon will donate 0.5% of your eligible purchases to the food bank.
North Texas Food Bank
Founded in 1982, the North Texas Food Bank began after four Dallas women vowed to fight hunger. In fact, it donated over 400,000 pounds of food in its first year. Now it donates millions of meals annually, and every dollar donated provides three healthy meals to those in need. One of the volunteer opportunities also includes working in the distribution center. Duties include packing and sorting, and you can donate your time Tuesday through Saturday, between 9:00 a.m. and 11:30 a.m. or 1:00 p.m. and 3:30 p.m.
