The Dallas Farmers Market is Just Eight Minutes Away
What began as a humble horse and wagon wholesale business is now the city's hub for farm-fresh vegetables, dairy, and more.
We're talking about the Dallas Farmers Market, and it dates back to the late nineteenth century.
As the city grew, so did the demand for fresh produce and meat, and in 1939, the market was expanded when the first shed was established.
Today, the shed is an open-air pavilion featuring a mix of farmers, ranchers, and artisans. Vendors include:
Bois d'Arc Meat Company
At the Bois d'Arc Meat Company, Thomas Locke embraces the farming practices of yesteryear when natural ecological processes were allowed to occur. The land has been in his family for 150 years, and he raises cattle, pigs, turkeys, and hens. Items include eggs, boneless ribeye steaks, and smoked hams.
Kelley Honey Farm
Family owned and operated, the Kelley Honey Farm grew from more than 100 years of experience in beekeeping and packing. It's proud to offer all-natural raw American honey and produces more than one million pounds every year. The beekeepers move 14,000 hives to the best nectar flows across the state, and boast that from beehive to bottle, you will taste the pure difference.
Texas Hill Country Olive Company
Texas Hill Country Olive Company is a family operated olive orchard that offers award-winning olive oil and balsamic vinegar. Found in the picturesque town of Dripping Springs, it was established in 2008 after John and Cara Gambini purchased seventeen acres of land with the idea of planting olive trees. From the beginning, they have focused on preserving the land's natural beauty, and are passionate about what they do. Olive oils include garlic, jalapeno, and Terra Verde.
