Explore the City's Music Stores
Do you enjoy spinning records or learning to read music? If so, head to one of these shops near our downtown Dallas apartments to discover the newest vinyl records and songbooks in a variety of genres:
Shake Rag Music
Found inside the Lost Again Antique Mall, Shake Rag sells all of the things that your mom threw out. It boasts that it's a rock and roll museum, only everything is for sale. The ever-changing selection features of out-of-print collectible LPs and 45 RPMs, and each visit offers something different from the last. Founder John Gasperik began his career as a photographer who shot on Hollywood movie sets and captured CD covers for Dallas' best bands. After attending a guitar show, he began buying used guitars. That's how the shop was born, and John is always interested in buying your unwanted records.
Murphy's Music
A Dallas fixture since 1969, Murphy's Music began as a piano and organ retailer. Founder Vincent Murphy instilled a love of music in his sons at an early age. The brothers grew up in the store, and today, they carry on their father's tradition of offering high-quality products at reasonable prices. The varied selection includes banjos, chord notes charts, and over 400 guitars.
Josey Records
At 15,500 square feet, it's no wonder that Josey Records is called a music mecca. It features rows of new and used vinyl, and genres range from country to punk rock. Two performance areas welcome the city's best bands, while a DJ booth comes alive on the weekends. If you have unwanted records, CDs, or cassettes, visit the buying counter where the staff will make you an offer.
