In the 1960s, Dominick Oliverie worked at a sandwich shop in New Jersey while finishing his master's degree. A few years later, he moved to Dallas to open his own shop with his brother. That's how Great American Hero was born. It was the first penniless store in Texas and is known for donating pennies and other loose change to the community.
