Did you know that glassblowing began around 2,000 years ago? Today, Texas is home to a glassblowing movement. If you would like to try your hand at this unique art form, visit one of these studios close to our downtown Dallas apartments where you can make everything from paperweights to decorative bowls:
When Carlyn Ray decided to share her passion, Dallas Glass Art was born. She worked hard to transform a 1950s welding warehouse into a state-of-the-art glassblowing studio. Carlyn is known for her creativity, and she and her team create wall pieces, fine art, and custom chandeliers.
Dallas Glass Art also offers fun classes. The instructors entertain as well as share the history of glassblowing. The most popular sessions are held on Saturday mornings, and they begin with a demonstration. Depending on the week, students may make bowls, vases, or seasonal items.
Founded by local artists, SiNaCa Studios provides North Texas with an opportunity to experience the rich tradition of glass art as a creative medium. It's found inside a renovated gas station and features both a glassblowing and flameworking studio.
Students range from beginners to professionals who come to improve their skills. Experience Glassblowing is perfect for first-timers. It introduces the tools, equipment, and materials used to create a unique work of art. Projects include miniature paperweights and seasonal items.
Established in 1999, Vetro Glassblowing is where artists teach the public about the ancient form of glassblowing. The studio is nationally recognized, and the artists' fine art creations are available in the gallery.
Classes are offered Tuesday through Thursday at 6:00 p.m. Students make clear and colored paperweights while learning skills such as gathering and blocking.
